Job Overview

The Water Treatment Plant Manager will be responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, and performance optimization of the Shendi Water Treatment Facility. Reporting directly to the Regional Operations Director, the manager will oversee a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, ensuring compliance with local regulations, international standards, and Veolia’s internal policies. Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of the water treatment plant, ensuring uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Monitor plant performance metrics, analyze data, and generate reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
• Manage the plant’s budget, control expenditures, and identify cost‑saving opportunities without compromising quality.
• Ensure compliance with Sudanese water quality standards, environmental regulations, and Veolia’s health and safety policies.
• Coordinate with procurement to source spare parts, chemicals, and services in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
• Lead a team of 30+ staff, providing coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development plans.
• Drive continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
• Engage with local authorities, community leaders, and NGOs to address water access challenges and promote public awareness.
• Oversee emergency response procedures and contingency planning for extreme weather events or system failures.

Required Skills

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., Certified Water Professional, Six Sigma Green Belt) are considered an advantage.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of 5‑7 years of progressive experience in water treatment plant operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience in the Sudanese or broader African water sector is highly desirable.

Salary
