Safety & Security Focal Person – Humanitarian Operations

About the Role

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking a qualified Safety & Security Focal Person to support humanitarian and operational activities across Sudan. The successful candidate will oversee security risk assessments, incident management, access coordination, staff safety awareness, and emergency preparedness measures while ensuring compliance with organizational security standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine security assessments and threat analysis.
  • Monitor political, social, and security developments affecting operations.
  • Develop and maintain security plans, evacuation procedures, and contingency plans.
  • Coordinate movement tracking and travel clearances for staff.
  • Deliver security briefings for new employees, consultants, and visitors.
  • Investigate incidents and prepare detailed security reports.
  • Maintain liaison with local authorities, community leaders, and security stakeholders.
  • Support crisis management and emergency response activities.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational safety standards and duty-of-care requirements.
  • Provide recommendations to management regarding risk mitigation measures.
  • Monitor office, guesthouse, and field-site security arrangements.
  • Conduct security awareness training and simulation exercises.
  • Assist in business continuity planning and operational resilience initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional certifications in security management are advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies.
  • Experience working with NGOs, humanitarian agencies, UN projects, or development programs.
  • Excellent report-writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3–6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in conflict-sensitive or high-risk environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in security coordination and incident response.
  • Experience supporting field operations and staff movement management.
