Job Overview

FAO Sudan is seeking a Water Resource Management Specialist to design and implement programs that optimize water usage, protect ecosystems, and enhance community resilience. This role will focus on integrating innovative technologies with traditional practices to ensure equitable access to clean water for agriculture, livestock, and domestic use.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct hydrological assessments and develop water management strategies for agricultural and urban areas
• Collaborate with local governments, NGOs, and communities to implement water conservation projects
• Monitor water quality and quantity using GIS and remote sensing tools
• Design training programs for farmers on efficient irrigation techniques
• Prepare reports and recommendations for policy makers and stakeholders
• Coordinate with international partners to secure funding for large-scale water infrastructure projects

Required Skills

• Expertise in water resource modeling and environmental impact assessment
• Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and data analysis tools
• Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills
• Experience in Sudan’s water governance frameworks and regional challenges
• Ability to work in remote field conditions with limited infrastructure
• Fluency in English and Arabic

Education

Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, Water Resource Engineering, Hydrology, or a related discipline. A PhD is a strong advantage.

Experience

Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in water resource management, with a focus on sustainable development projects in arid or semi-arid regions. Prior work in Sudan or neighboring Sahelian countries is preferred.

Salary

150,000 – 200,000 Sudanese Pounds (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
