Job Description
The Area Manager will oversee WHH operations in North Darfur and ensure the effective, timely, and high-quality implementation of humanitarian interventions across multiple sectors including food security, nutrition, WASH, multipurpose cash assistance (MPCA), livelihoods, and emergency response programming.
The position requires strong coordination with humanitarian actors, donor agencies, government stakeholders, local communities, and internal departments to ensure program effectiveness, security compliance, operational continuity, and humanitarian access.
Key Responsibilities
Humanitarian Coordination & Representation
- Actively participate in North Darfur Humanitarian Coordination Forums to ensure alignment with national and international humanitarian priorities.
- Represent WHH during donor field visits, humanitarian meetings, stakeholder engagements, and coordination platforms.
- Maintain effective working relationships with local authorities, humanitarian partners, civil society organizations, and traditional leaders.
Security Management & Humanitarian Access
- Monitor security conditions, armed conflict dynamics, movement restrictions, and operational risks affecting humanitarian operations.
- Lead access negotiations with authorities, local communities, and relevant stakeholders to facilitate safe program implementation.
- Strengthen community acceptance through culturally sensitive programming and transparent communication mechanisms.

Program Implementation & Quality Management
- Support implementation of projects in:
- Food Security & Livelihoods
- Nutrition Programs

- Monitor project performance to ensure compliance with donor requirements, WHH standards, and Sudan country strategy priorities.
- Provide timely updates regarding program progress, operational challenges, humanitarian needs, and contextual developments.
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Collaborate with the Emergency Response Coordinator and Heads of Programs to develop contingency and emergency preparedness plans.
- Ensure readiness for conflict-related displacement, natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and sudden humanitarian crises.
- Support rapid mobilization of staff and operational resources during emergencies.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building
- Oversee recruitment, mentoring, supervision, and performance management of field staff.
- Ensure staff compliance with Sudanese labor law, organizational policies, and safeguarding requirements.
- Promote teamwork, professional development, and a positive multicultural working environment.
- Encourage evidence-based decision-making and use of data analysis for humanitarian planning and response.
Accountability & Community Engagement
- Strengthen partnerships with community-based organizations, civil society groups, and local leaders.
- Uphold accountability to affected populations through feedback systems, transparent communication, and community engagement mechanisms.
- Support WHH advocacy, communication strategies, and humanitarian awareness efforts.
Education Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- A Technical College Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as:
- Humanitarian Studies
- International Development

- Disaster Management
- International Relations or related disciplines
Additional training in humanitarian coordination, emergency response, conflict management, security risk management, or donor-funded programming is considered advantageous.
Experience Requirements
Candidates must have:
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in humanitarian or development programming within conflict or post-conflict settings.
- Previous experience in Sudan or similar humanitarian contexts will be highly preferred.
- Proven experience managing multiple humanitarian projects, donor-funded programs, emergency operations, and field teams.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in complex and insecure environments.
