Job Overview
The Chief Data Scientist will lead Microsoft Sudan’s data strategy, overseeing the design, development, and deployment of advanced analytics and AI solutions that address complex challenges across industries. This senior role reports directly to the Regional Director of Cloud & AI and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to translate business needs into scalable data products. The successful candidate will champion a data‑centric culture, mentor a growing team of data engineers and scientists, and ensure that Microsoft’s cutting‑edge technologies are tailored to the unique market dynamics of Sudan.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute a comprehensive data and AI roadmap aligned with Microsoft’s regional objectives.
- Lead the end‑to‑end lifecycle of data projects, from data ingestion and cleaning to model deployment and monitoring.
- Collaborate with sales, marketing, and solution architects to identify high‑impact use cases for AI in sectors such as agriculture, finance, healthcare, and education.
- Mentor and grow a multidisciplinary team of data engineers, analysts, and junior data scientists.
- Establish best practices for data governance, security, and ethical AI in compliance with Sudanese regulations.
- Represent Microsoft Sudan at industry conferences, workshops, and academic partnerships to promote data literacy and innovation.
- Drive continuous improvement through performance metrics, A/B testing, and feedback loops.
Required Skills
- Expertise in machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit‑learn) and cloud platforms (Azure AI, Azure Synapse).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Strong knowledge of big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka) and data warehousing concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business problems into analytical solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Leadership experience managing high‑performing data science teams.
- Understanding of ethical AI principles and data privacy regulations in Sudan.
Education
A doctoral degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline is required. Relevant certifications in Azure AI, Data Engineering, or Machine Learning are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in data science, with at least 5 years in a leadership or chief role. Proven track record of delivering AI solutions that generate measurable business value, preferably within emerging markets or the African continent.
Salary
