Job Overview
The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of comprehensive EHS programs across LafargeHolcim’s Omdurman cement plant. Reporting to the Regional EHS Director, the manager will ensure compliance with Sudanese regulations, international standards such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, and corporate policies. The role involves risk assessment, incident investigation, training delivery, and fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility among all staff. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and standards aligned with local laws and global best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and reporting to ensure timely remediation and learning.
- Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management activities.
- Provide EHS training programs for all employee levels, including new‑hire orientation, competency assessments, and refresher courses.
- Monitor environmental performance indicators such as emissions, waste, water usage, and implement reduction initiatives.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to integrate safety considerations into operational processes.
- Prepare and submit regulatory filings, permits, and compliance documentation to Sudanese authorities.
- Drive continuous improvement through benchmarking, KPI tracking, and adoption of innovative safety technologies.
- Represent LafargeHolcim Sudan in industry forums, stakeholder meetings, and community outreach programs.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Sudanese occupational health and safety legislation and environmental regulations.
- Proficiency in ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other relevant management system standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to influence all levels of the organization.
- Experience with incident investigation tools, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging training sessions.
- Leadership qualities with a proactive, hands‑on approach to safety culture.
- Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or NEBOSH International Diploma are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage.
Experience
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in EHS roles within heavy‑industry or manufacturing environments, preferably in cement, construction materials, or related sectors. Prior experience managing multi‑disciplinary teams and leading large‑scale safety initiatives is essential.
