Job Overview

The Radio Access Network (RAN) Optimization Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and continuous improvement of MTN Sudan’s radio access infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of Network Engineering, the incumbent will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to monitor network KPIs, implement optimization techniques, and ensure optimal coverage and capacity. This position plays a critical role in delivering superior user experiences, reducing dropped calls, and increasing data throughput, directly influencing MTN Sudan’s market competitiveness. The role also involves close interaction with vendors, field engineers, and the performance monitoring center to translate data insights into actionable network enhancements. Key Responsibilities

• Analyze RAN performance metrics using OSS/BSS tools to identify coverage gaps, capacity constraints, and quality issues.
• Develop and implement optimization plans, including antenna tilt adjustments, parameter tuning, and handover optimization.
• Collaborate with radio planning, drive‑test, and field teams to validate optimization actions and ensure seamless execution.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and dashboards for senior management, highlighting improvement outcomes and ROI.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors (e.g., Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei) for firmware updates, feature activation, and troubleshooting.
• Participate in network expansion projects, providing expertise on site selection, RF design, and integration testing.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices across the network operations team.
• Stay updated on emerging RAN technologies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements in Sudan.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in RAN performance tools such as Atoll, TEMS, or similar.
• In‑depth knowledge of LTE and 5G NR radio principles, including interference management and capacity planning.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.
• Effective communication skills for cross‑departmental collaboration and stakeholder reporting.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple optimization projects simultaneously.
• Familiarity with Sudanese telecom regulations and spectrum allocations is a plus.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Wireless, Nokia Network Optimization, or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in radio access network optimization within a mobile operator environment. Proven track record of delivering measurable improvements in KPIs such as RRC success rate, throughput, and call drop rate is essential.

Salary
