Job Overview

ABB Sudan is seeking a highly skilled Smart Grid Systems Engineer to design, implement, and optimize next-generation smart grid infrastructure in El Obeid. This role is pivotal in advancing Sudan’s energy transition by integrating renewable energy sources, improving grid efficiency, and ensuring uninterrupted power supply. The successful candidate will collaborate with local utilities, government agencies, and international partners to deliver scalable smart grid solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement smart grid systems, including advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and distribution automation.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments for grid modernization projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate renewable energy sources into the grid.
  • Monitor and analyze grid performance using data analytics tools to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Provide technical support during project execution and ensure compliance with international standards.
  • Develop training programs for local engineers and technicians on smart grid technologies.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in smart grid design, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, including distribution networks and grid stability.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, IoT-enabled grid solutions, and energy storage integration.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic, with technical writing capabilities.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. A Master’s Degree in Smart Grid Technology or Energy Systems is a plus.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience in smart grid projects, preferably in emerging markets. Prior involvement in energy transition initiatives or renewable grid integration is highly desirable.

Salary

150,000 – 200,000 Sudanese Pounds (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
