Job Overview
The Network Security Engineer will play a pivotal role in safeguarding MTN Sudan’s extensive network infrastructure against evolving cyber threats. Reporting to the Head of Network Security, the incumbent will design, implement, and manage security controls, conduct vulnerability assessments, and respond to incidents to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of critical telecommunications services. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce network security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry best practices.
- Implement firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and other security technologies across the carrier network.
- Conduct regular security assessments, penetration testing, and risk analyses to identify vulnerabilities.
- Monitor security events using SIEM tools, analyze logs, and coordinate incident response activities.
- Collaborate with the engineering and operations teams to integrate security controls into network design and rollout.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and operational staff.
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of network topology, security configurations, and incident reports.
- Stay informed about emerging threats, zero‑day exploits, and regulatory changes affecting the telecommunications sector.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and business continuity exercises.
Required Skills
- Deep knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF) and telecom equipment.
- Hands‑on experience with security appliances such as Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Juniper SRX.
- Proficiency in SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, QRadar) and log analysis.
- Strong understanding of cryptographic concepts, PKI, and secure VPN technologies.
- Ability to conduct vulnerability assessments using tools like Nessus, OpenVAS, or Qualys.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the capacity to work under pressure during security incidents.
- Effective communication skills for reporting to senior management and training staff.
- Relevant certifications (CISSP, CCNP Security, CEH, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications in cybersecurity will be considered an advantage.
Experience

Salary
