Job Overview

The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance, capacity, and quality of MTN Sudan’s radio access network (RAN) in the Nyala region. Reporting to the Head of Network Engineering, the incumbent will analyze network data, design optimization strategies, and implement solutions that improve coverage, throughput, and user experience. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive drive‑test and performance analysis to identify coverage gaps, interference, and capacity constraints.
  • Develop and execute optimization plans for LTE and 5G networks, focusing on parameters such as handover, load balancing, and antenna tilt.
  • Collaborate with radio planning, core network, and field teams to implement configuration changes and verify results.
  • Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., OSS, NMS, KPI dashboards) to track key performance indicators and generate actionable insights.
  • Prepare detailed optimization reports, presenting findings and recommendations to senior management and technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in network rollout projects, providing expertise on optimization best practices and post‑deployment performance validation.
  • Stay updated on emerging telecom technologies, standards, and industry trends to continuously improve network efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or Python.
  • In‑depth knowledge of LTE/4G and 5G radio principles, protocols, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with drive‑test equipment (e.g., TEMS, Nemo) and network performance monitoring platforms.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to work under pressure to meet service level agreements.
  • Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration and stakeholder presentations.
  • Project management experience, including planning, execution, and documentation.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS, or Ericsson Certified Engineer are advantageous.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in network optimization within a mobile operator environment, with proven success in improving KPI performance and delivering measurable enhancements to network quality.

Salary
