Job Overview
The Senior Process Development Engineer will lead the design, optimization, and scale‑up of chemical processes within BASF’s El Obeid manufacturing plant. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the role involves collaborating with cross‑functional teams to improve product quality, increase operational efficiency, and reduce environmental impact. The engineer will be responsible for translating laboratory innovations into reliable, cost‑effective production methods, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement robust process designs for new and existing chemical products.
- Conduct pilot‑scale trials, analyze data, and recommend scale‑up strategies.
- Optimize existing processes to enhance yield, reduce waste, and lower energy consumption.
- Collaborate with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production teams to ensure seamless technology transfer.
- Lead risk assessments, hazard analyses, and ensure compliance with local and international safety standards.
- Prepare technical documentation, process flow diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and operators on best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles, thermodynamics, and reaction engineering.
- Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD).
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and data‑driven decision making.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Project management experience with ability to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have at least eight years of progressive experience in process development within the chemical, petrochemical, or related manufacturing sectors. Demonstrated success in leading scale‑up projects from pilot to full production is essential.
Salary
