Job Overview
This role is part of WorldFish Sudan’s initiative to enhance sustainable fisheries practices in the White Nile region. The Sustainable Fisheries Development Officer will lead community-based projects to improve fishery productivity, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. The position requires a blend of technical expertise, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills to drive impactful outcomes in one of Sudan’s most vital agricultural sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement sustainable aquaculture and fisheries development programs in collaboration with local stakeholders.
- Conduct field research to assess fishery ecosystems, identify threats, and recommend conservation strategies.
- Train community members in eco-friendly fishing techniques, aquaculture practices, and resource management.
- Monitor and evaluate project outcomes to ensure alignment with WorldFish’s sustainability goals.
- Prepare technical reports, grant proposals, and policy briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with government agencies, NGOs, and international partners to secure funding and resources.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in fisheries management, aquaculture, or environmental development projects.
- Strong project planning and execution capabilities with a focus on community engagement.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting using GIS or statistical tools.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for multi-stakeholder collaboration.
- Knowledge of Sudanese fisheries policies and regional environmental challenges.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is essential.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, Environmental Management, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is a strong advantage.
Experience
3–5 years of professional experience in sustainable fisheries development, with a preference for candidates who have worked in Sudan or neighboring regions.
Salary
500,000 – 700,000 Sudanese Pounds (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
