Job Overview
ILRI Sudan seeks a passionate Sustainable Livestock Development Officer to lead projects promoting sustainable animal husbandry practices in Damazin. The role involves designing and implementing programs that improve livestock health, optimize feed systems, and strengthen market linkages for smallholder farmers. This position is critical to advancing food security and rural economic growth in Sudan.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute livestock development strategies aligned with climate adaptation goals.
- Collaborate with local farmers, cooperatives, and government agencies to implement sustainable practices.
- Conduct field assessments to evaluate livestock health, feed availability, and water access.
- Design training programs on animal nutrition, disease prevention, and breeding techniques.
- Monitor and report on project impact using data-driven metrics.
- Secure funding through grant proposals and donor partnerships.
Required Skills
- Expertise in sustainable livestock management systems.
- Strong project planning and execution capabilities.
- Knowledge of Sudanese agricultural policies and rural development challenges.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping for land use analysis.
- Fluency in Arabic and English.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Science, or related field. Advanced degrees (MSc/PhD) in Livestock Development or Climate Resilience are highly advantageous.
Experience
3-5 years of professional experience in livestock development, rural extension services, or agricultural project management. Prior work in arid or semi-arid regions is preferred.
Salary
150,000 – 200,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
