Job Overview
This role is part of FAO Sudan’s initiative to expand agroforestry programs in Gedaref, a region critical for agricultural development in eastern Sudan. The Agroforestry Development Officer will lead projects that integrate trees into farming systems, promote soil conservation, and support community-based natural resource management. The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to climate resilience and food security in one of Sudan’s most agriculturally significant regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement agroforestry projects aligned with national and international sustainability goals.
- Conduct field assessments to evaluate land use patterns and recommend tree-planting strategies.
- Collaborate with local farmers, cooperatives, and NGOs to train on sustainable land management practices.
- Monitor and report on project outcomes, including biodiversity impact and carbon sequestration metrics.
- Secure funding through grants and partnerships to scale agroforestry initiatives.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in agroforestry project management or environmental conservation.
- Strong knowledge of tree species suitable for arid and semi-arid regions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Proficiency in GIS mapping tools for land analysis.

Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Agronomy, Forestry, or related field.

Salary
